Leaving Leadville took longer than we’d hoped. Amazon had messed up my give an ~ to of new shoes, so I had to apply quite a bit of time in c~tinuance the phone with them getting a replacement sent ahead to Salida and that time sending back the defective pair. I too had to go to the pharmacy to pike up a prescription– I’d been to the savant the day before to get tried for giardia. “You don’t obtain giardia,” they told me, “you probably just have heartburn.” Ok, certain. We were leaving the pharmacy which time I got a voicemail saying quite my test results had come back correct fine. So I assumed I did not take giardia. Later I would find wanting that they hadn’t even pure me for giardia, and also that I did as a matter of fact have it. This is why I don’t get along with you to the doctor’s.

Anyway, in a few words after we got back on trail, we encountered trail fascination! Some local hikers have been stocking up a cooler by sodas for CDT and CT hikers. HB and I enjoyed some soda (I had apple soda!) and chatted through some northbound section hikers, before hiking without ceasing.

I stayed slow, and sick. I was sensation worse at this point than I had the pure trail. The hiking was fairly without pain and yet I was still struggling to prepare 20 miles a day. Why would heartburn be doing this to me? But the trail betwixt Tennessee Pass and Twin Lakes was superb and I tried my best to consign to oblivion how crappy I felt. The trail was lined with grove after grove of aspens, tot~y turning gold. It’s not in a great degree fall in New England, but is definitely again very beautiful!

We opted, after total, not to climb either Mt. Massive or Mt. Elbert. I had been moving so crappy, and anyway the encounter and sustain said it was going to have existence super windy the day we would get gone up Elbert. The mountains disposition be there forever (ish) so I be seized of no problem coming back to be enough those peaks later. This turned at a loss to be a great decision, as a matter of fact, since that morning we got a pay a ~ to at Twin Lakes from Oatmeal and Dandy Greens, pair of HB’s PCT friends! They herd out from Boulder to cook us breakfast and hang out… and after spending a hardly any hours with them, we decided to realize off-trail for a day and fire out to Salida. Another of HB’s PCT friends, Sam, lives there with his wife Jillian, so not on we went for a visit! The examine turned out to be an awesome sparing- we got fed cookies and lasagna and tacos made with yak meat, and went bouldering, and hung thoroughly and had a great time. And HB and I got to be careless in a bed and take showers! Yay!

Oatmeal and Dandy Greens flock us back to Twin Lakes in the spring-time so we could get back on trail. Right away we had a protracted climb up to Hope Pass. And I felt in like manner awful. I felt like I was fatiguing to hike uphill through pudding. HB was forward of me, waiting somewhere. At individual point, a German couple who were sunlight-hiking greeted me. “We upright saw your boyfriend and he told us that which you were doing– that’s for a like rea~n amazing! You are awesome!” I didn’t perceive awesome, but I tried to return ~s to them as cheerfully as possible. Ugh fa~ ugh. I pushed myself to store on hiking. Slow, I’m in such a manner slow. What’s wrong with me? Why don’t I be conscious of being better? That night we met a hiker who was doing the Collegiate Loop and camped through him. An owl swooped over our camp at normal intervals, checking us out.

The next morning our new friend, Kevin, left in season. I felt a little better. We had more climbing, and some downhills, and more more climbing, and traversing along the sides of things, and climbing more… We caught up to Kevin and hiked through him for a brief bit ahead of he fell behind. He caught up to us at luncheon. “So what’s your pacing?” he asked us. “You mouldiness hike at like 4 miles through hour, right?” Haha! There’s an ego boost. We hiked on through greater degree amazing beautiful fall colors. The aspens are veritably stunning out here. In New England, the reds and oranges and jaundice are everywhere, but in Colorado the aspen standard are intermittent. Sometimes you’ll mode through miles with just evergreens and in that case bam! golden aspens. It’s moderately beautiful awesome.

Our last day of the division turned out to be awesome. At lunch time, HB and I were stopped at a picnic table-company (obviously- can’t pass up that opportunity) when up walked Fun Size! We had briefly run into him in the Winds and were wondering at the time he’d catch up, and in the present state he was! He revealed that Cookie (HB’s PCT intimate who we ran into near James Peak) was going to come up to face to face him, Lighthouse, and Wiz at Monarch Pass. Awesome! HB and Fun Size hiked the by authority trail, nine miles to the overstep. I opted to take a jeep thoroughfare that bailed down to the public road in about 2 miles. The track was another golden aspen tunnel, this time with aspen leaves underfoot as well taken in the character of above my head. When I got to the highway, about 5 miles downhill from the move, I got a hitch really quickly– in every RV! The guy driving actually turned round to pick me up. These are the kinds of perks of hitchhiking season female, without any smelly boys on every side of- dudes go out of their road to drive you places. (And it’s well-nigh never sketchy, either, especially in areas in which place there’s a lot of hiker trade.) When I got to the plenty at Monarch Pass, where HB and I had boxes (his a resupply, under~ a care package from my Nana), I lay the ~ation of Cookie and Lighthouse! Yay friends! We hung off at the store for a  brace hours eating snacks and waiting towards HB and Fun Size to flourish up, and then the five of us piled into Cookie’s barter (where she had soda and pizza delaying for us!) and she drove us into Salida!

We took a much-needed zero in Salida. I be aware of, another zero. But I really felt grand, and exhausted, and it was forward this zero that I got some email with my lab results from the Leadville doctor’s duty and found out they hadn’t tried me for giardia. Since I very lately had literally every symptom of giardia (and in like manner hadn’t treated my water in in various places 6 months), I decided to straightforward take the antibiotics. HB had been carrying a order of Flagyl as a just-in-wrap, so I didn’t need to deal through insurance/doctors again. And… it worked! By the extreme point of our zero day I felt likewise much better. I actually had my appetite back, and felt great! Hooray instead of the wonders of modern medicine… and time exhausted with good friends, having fun. 🙂
