One adversity, Chou Chou couldn’t sleep; she was panting, smart her lips, and burping. She was clearly very uncomfortable. (“Oui! My tummy was ouchy!”) And whenever Chou Chou can’t sleep, I can’t either!

So off to the vet we went. That was 4 weeks ago.

The vet started the diagnostics with stomach and chest x-rays. They were perpendicular. We were sent home with some medications to soothe her stomach, and she was express on a bland diet of cottage cheese, rice, and chicken. (“Very refined!”)

Price tag: $412.

The gastric agony continued. Her stomach gurgled, and she was smooth burpy (which the vet said was flowing back). After a few more days, and a scarcely any more sleepless nights, we returned to the vet. This time Chou Chou had a fecal proof and blood work. All came abroad normal. That was all good word, except we still didn’t comprehend why she wasn’t getting greater good. Price tag: $65.

Ten days passed destitute of improvement. What do you do ~ward New Year’s Eve? I get you ~ne to the vet. This time she had each ultrasound. It was normal. Price fasten: $500.

(“Happy New Year!”)

The drugs were changed a brief. The Pepcid was changed to Prevacid and then to Zantac. The cottage cheese was removed from the diet. GasX was added. But she was not acquisition any better and it was toward a month of discomfort. I was positively worried. I had not changed her provender or her activities; I could regard of nothing that could have caused this.

I scheduled an endoscopy. An internist would look down into her stomach and see admitting that there was an obvious problem. Biopsies would likewise be taken.

This time at least they found something. Her stomach was real inflamed. And they pulled out… a hairball! I deliberation only cats get hairballs. They impediment me look at this hairball, the glutinous substance of my thumbnail, and here’s the kind of I saw: it was coarse ~ garments hair, and Chou Chou has that gentle of hair around her lips. I had noticed which time I brushed her that the edge of her beard looked sheared.

I had ~y hypothesis now: I’ve in no degree given Chou Chou any rawhide. But lately I had purchased some Verbac rawhide that helps spotless teeth. I thought this would subsist good a couple times a week, attached days I didn’t brush her teeth. Dogs ruminate rawhide with their back teeth, forward the side of their mouths… as it should be about where she was missing the calamitous hair. The hairball was hard — not a sphere of hair, but something covered in hair. Could it be a piece of the rawhide, chewed and gooey, that joined with the hair and stuck in her inclination

The vet thought that was possible, but she didn’t think the hairball was causing the whole of the trouble. Anyway, it’s at a loss! Price tag: $1,700!

I was worried with reference to Chou Chou. But I was not worried in regard to all the money I was profitable for vet bills. I have social pet insurance! (“I am a superior maintenance puppy! But I am cute!”)

She was put on flagyl and that has helped a al~. Little by little, I have changed her diet from the chicken and rice back to her kibble and she is improving every day. The biopsy was inconclusive in the manner that to cause of stomach inflammation; single possibility is Irritable Bowel Disorder, what one. would be very bad. It’s each auto-immune disease that doesn’t fare away. I refuse to believe that. I like my hairball speculation — a stomach irritant that is it being so that gone and she is healing.

Chou Chou is dormant better now. And so am I.
